Directions to Strathy

Strathy is located along the far north coast of mainland Scotland. North is the Atlantic Ocean and south are the Northern Highlands. Strathy can be reached by road. A main road, the A836, runs through Strathy and connects John O’ Groats, through Tongue, Lairg and Inverness.  An alternative is to take the A9 north from Inverness to Helmsdale, join the A897 to Melvich and then take the A836 to Strathy.

The A897 and parts of the A836 are single track. Please take care driving alongthese roads and use the passing places to allow car to overtake you and to allow cars travelling in the opposite direction to pass by. Animals such as rabbits, deer and sheep roam freely on our roads. Please take care not to damage them or your vehicle.

Our resources page lists different methods of public transport in the area.
